MODERN ENDOSCOPES FOR SPINAL SURGERY From early in time, ambitious surgeons have strived to improve the quality of surgical procedures. Opti- mizing vision by magnification and improved illu- mination, marked an important step in this process. As early as in the year 1807, Phillipp Bozzini worked with one of the first endoscopes. Owing to this initial progress, Maximilian Nitze developed in 1879 the very first endoscope with working chan- nel. A certain resemblance to contemporary spina- lendoscopes is apparent.
